I've owned many electric cars in my days and unless you're really chill (like myself) range anxiety is real! Well, not in the Karma. While it is an EV (the wheels are only connected to electric motors with a single speed trans) it got a range extender. What is a range extender? Good question, it's basically a 2L turbo charged chevy engine that runs an onboard generator to recharge the batteries while you're cruising along. Basically you can drive your Karma from Florida to Canada without needing to recharge.
Running on pure electricity get's 35-40 a charge miles and on both you'd get about 50mpg, which is great in my opinion considering how big and heavy the Karma is.
I have to say it took me a while to get used to this dynamic, I mean it's a bit strange to hear the engine revving without the immediate boost in speed due to the fact that it's not turning the wheels but rather the generator.
